Analysing the current situation and improve the experience while respecting the old context. 

 

Do you have a product in mind you always dreamed of making? Every year during 'De week van het Nachtkastje', experts of the Applied University of Utrecht, are there to help you realise this.  

 

The bike chandelier was that product for me! After a car accident in 2011, my bike wheel was totally deformed. The shape intrigued me, and I wanted to remember this experience with a piece that reflects 'who I am'. I always look for new possibilities to improve current situations. It is not always necessary to start over completely but work with the context you have and make it relevant, beautiful, meaningful and fun again. 

 

In this case, turning 'junk' into a beautiful product with a personal story as a countermovement against the throwaway culture. I firmly believe that creating meaningful, suitable and personal solutions help to give products and services a longer lifespan.
